Question 24: How are these articles divided? Answer: Into three parts; the first is of God the Father and our creation; the second of God the Son and our redemption; the third of God the Holy Spirit and our sanctification. Question 25: Since there is but one divine Being1, why do you speak of three, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? Answer: Because God has so revealed Himself in His Word2, that these three distinct persons are the one, true, and eternal God. 1 Deut. 6:4, Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.Eph. 4:6, One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all. Matt. 28:19, Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. 1John 5:7, For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. Isa. 6:1,3, In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple... And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, [is] the LORD of hosts: the whole earth [is] full of his glory. John 14:26; 15:26, But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you...
